You will arrive at a lovely hotel in the old town of Wittenberg.

 

1st  Day     From Wittenberg Lutherstadt to Torgau    77 km – 48 miles

 

After you have been fitted with the appropriate bicycle, you will start cycling through beautiful water meadows while enjoying the charming flora and fauna. You will pass by the historic Bock Windmill and reach a beautiful restaurant at lunchtime. There you can sit

outside and enjoy the view of the nearby lakes or you just go swimming for a while. After the town of Dommitzsch, you will cross the Elbe River by ferry and arrive in Torgau in the evening. In the castle courtyard you can relax with a cold beer or climb the tower, where you will have a splendid view of the Elbe and the old town.

 

2nd Day    From Torgau to Meißen                 79 km – 49 miles

 

After cycling along the Elbe for about an hour, you will reach the town of Belgern. Especially the marketplace with the beautiful town hall from the Renaissance, and the famous Roland - the emblem of the town - are well worth seeing. The 20 ft. high statue is made of sandstone and there are many folk tales about it. In the evening you will arrive in Meißen, where you should have a wine tasting.

 

3rd Day    From Meißen to Moritzburg         29 km – 18 miles

 

You will have all the morning for a visit to the oldest porcelain manufactory of Europe and the beautiful Old town as well as the Albrechtsburg Castle.

After lunch we should go on and travel up the Elbe. Soon you will reach the famous cultural

centre of Altkötzschenbroda with its wonderfully restored village centre. Have a break in one

of the numerous beer gardens or pavement restaurants!

You will pass the viticultural town of Radebeul, also famous for his author Karl May.

Then you will be cycling along the Lößnitz River Bed with its third oldest narrow-gage railway of Germany until you will arrive in Moritzburg. You will have time to visit the hunting seat of August the Strong, the pheasant bawn and deer park and will sleep in a comfortable hotel in the area.

 

4th Day     From Moritzburg to Dresden       27 km – 17 miles

 

Using a different path, you will reach Dresden via Radebeul at lunchtime.

You can use the afternoon for a guided sightseeing tour of this town with its multitude of monumental renaissance, baroque and 19th century buildings.

 

5th Day    From Dresden to Pirna                  24 km – 15 miles

 

You can use the morning for a stroll through the Old town, a visit the Old Masters Picture Gallery in the Zwinger or the "Green Vault" - the treasure chamber of the Saxon electors and kings.

In the afternoon you will pass the architecturally interesting steel bridge „Blue Miracle". Then you will cross the Elbe River by ferry and visit the Pillnitz Castle with its beautiful parkways. After this you will be cycling along the Elbe River to the Großsedlitz Baroque Garden.

Elector of Saxony and King of Poland August the Strong established this French-style gardening composition in 1719, which shortly after served heady parties.

In the evening you will arrive in the little Saxon town of Pirna, where you will spend the night.

 

6th Day     From Pirna to Krippen                   32 km – 20 miles

 

Those who wish may visit the historic city centre of Pirna in the morning, with its middle-class houses from the 16th and 17th century, which were built with their bays and figurines from homelike sandstone.

In the morning you will arrive in the spa town of Rathen and climb up to the Bastei Rocks.

They are famous for the splendid view of this unique hiking and rock climbing region of

Europe. The stone bridge was eternalized by Caspar David Friedrich amongst others in the famous painting "The rocky gorge". You can also inspect the rocky Neurathen fortress, a fortress of natural stone, which was built by Bohemian knights in the middle of the 14th century.

Then you will cross the river by a ferry again and you will arrive at the largest European mountain fortress called Königstein using the Königstein Express - a fancy double decker bus - and a local line for transport. You will find more than 30 different buildings on the large plateau - attestors of former centuries.

In the afternoon you will be cycling through the health resort Bad Schandau and reach Krippen, a district it finally, where you will spend the night in a little hotel.

 

7th Day Departure

 

After the breakfast you can reach the train station by foot within 5 minutes. The train will bring you to the main station of Dresden within about one hour.
